A Choral Showcase 13th March 2010

The Choir's held a joint concert at 'The Venue', Stocksbridge with Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir on 13th March 2010 beginning at 7:30pm.  The guests were Dearne Valley Sax Quartet,  and the "Come and Sing Choir" formed as part of the project between the two Choirs to encourage extra recruitment from the locality.  This concert was the new choir's first public performance.

Bolsterstone began the concert,  performing 5 pieces from their repertoire including "Bobby Shaftoe" and a Selection of pieces from "The Phantom of the Opera".  The Dearne Valley Sax Quartet then performed 5 pieces from their repertoire - these included "Summertime" by George Gerswhin,  and "Soul Bossa" by Quincy Jones.  Worrall then completed the first half of the concert by singing 4 pieces from the repertoire - starting with "Deus Salutis" in Welsh,  and concluding with "A medley from Les Miserables"

After the break,  the "Come and Sing Choir" made their debut, helped by a few members of the supporting choirs.  They sang 4 pieces - these were "The Song of the Jolly Roger",  "My Lord, What a Mornin", "The Rose" and concluded with "The Rhythm of Life".  They did very well,  and the audience certainly expressed their appreciation of the performance.  The Dearne Valley Sax Quartet then played another 6 pieces from their repertoire - ranging from the "Air from Suite in D" by Bach to "The Lone Arranger goes Sax Mad" where Rossini's theme is performed in a number of different and interesting ways.  Finally,  the 3 choirs combined to sing "Gwahoddiad" - in English, and "When the Saints go Marching in" before the concert concluded with everyone singing "Cwm Rhondda"

All in all,  the concert was a great success,  and the Gala Concert planned for the 17th April at Pond's Forge should be another good night.
